Peripheral Arterial Disease

Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), is also known as atherosclerosis or hardening of the peripheral (limb)arteries. Patients with this condition may develop cramping in their calves or thighs with activity. Severe PAD may cause non-healing ulcers, tissue loss or gangrene. The diagnosis of PAD can be made by both physical exam and non-invasive diagnostic testing. The treatment of PAD with the advent of minimally invasive techniques has markedly improved the quality of life as well as longevity of patients.
